High-MOI Model with Toe Flow Combines Forgiveness of a Mallet with Feel of a Blade
Scotty Cameron has added a high-MOI mallet with enhanced toe flow to his new Futura line of putters – the Futura 5.5M – combining the forgiveness of a mallet with the feel of a blade. Inspired by Scotty’s work with players on the worldwide professional tours, the Futura 5.5M offers a new mallet option featuring the alignment and high-MOI characteristics of the Futura line coupled with a neck configuration that promotes a flowing, arced putting stroke more commonly associated with blade style putters. The Futura 5.5M is available in North American golf shops beginning Aug. 25 (Sept. 22 worldwide).
“The idea for the Futura 5.5M began as a prototype when Justin Thomas came to the Putter Studio looking for a new option,” Scotty Cameron said. “He wanted a smaller mallet that he could align easily, but one that also promoted the arced putting stroke he preferred. We welded a flare neck to a Futura X5 Tour putter and sent him on his way. He went on to win three events, reporting back that some of his buddies wanted a putter like his. The wheels started turning from there.
“In addition to Justin’s visit, I’d also received requests for a smaller version of the Futura 7M. So, in thinking about this new entry in the world of mallet putters, I was able to blend my MOI and toe flow thoughts into this new model, the Futura 5.5M. To achieve this, I created a leaned over, stainless steel half-neck spud off the topline that accepts a single bend shaft. This is an elegant way to give the player a full shaft of offset and also offer a clean view of the entire leading edge of the topline. The proportion is right. The weight is right. And now we have a mallet with more toe flow for players who like that arcing feel in their stroke, but want more forgiveness.”
FUTURA 5.5M DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY: The new Futura 5.5M extends the popular Futura line with a model designed for players seeking a smaller mallet with additional toe flow and forgiveness:
- The compact mallet—about 10 percent smaller than the similarly-shaped Futura 7M—is designed for easy alignment with built-in toe flow.
- Shorter single bend shaft configuration for additional toe hang, promoting an arced path and flowing putting stroke.
- Multi-material technology – featuring wrap-around face-sole construction milled from lightweight 6061 aircraft grade aluminum, integrated with precision-milled 303 stainless steel – moves weight back and to the perimeter, allowing for a larger putter head with enhanced high-MOI performance (resistance to twisting during the stroke).
- Tour-proven heel-and-toe sole weighting technology increases stability and forgiveness.
- Mid-milled face with vibration dampening technology offers soft feel with 3.5 degrees of loft to deliver optimum roll characteristics
FUTURA PUTTER FAMILY: From rounded mid-mallets to high-tech, high-MOI larger mallets, the 2017 Futura family melds design characteristics of the previous generation mallets with Scotty Cameron’s continued innovation in multi-material putter constructions. The result is a cohesive lineup of tour-proven shapes and configurations – Futura 5CB, 5MB, 5W, 5S and 5.5M; Futura 6M and 6M Dual Balance; and Futura 7M – with enhanced stability and forgiveness, improved alignment features, and responsive feel and feedback.
FUTURA ACCESSORIES: Each new Futura putter features advanced stability weighting with removable, customizable stainless steel sole weights, stepless steel shafts and supple Black Matador Mid-size grips with red and gold accents (Futura 6M DB employs a 15-inch Dual Balance grip) developed to offer the comfort of a larger grip while maintaining responsiveness and feel.
MODERN AESTHETICS: Scotty gave the Futura line’s raw stainless steel surfaces a Silver Mist finish with a unique bead blast for a radiant, yet glare-resistant, appearance. All aluminum sole plates have been anodized in black. Additionally, the Tour-inspired cosmetics display the familiar three bright translucent red dots in the back cavity with engraved typography befitting this modern, high-performance line.
The 2017 US Open kicks off next at Erin Hills, a new course to the tournaments rotation. Phil Mickelson is out and there are no clear favourites but Dustin Johnson has to be a possible winner. There are no out of bounds, no water hazards no trees and it seems you suit short game player. (Phil what are doing! This is made for you)

Bridgestone is catering to the better player with its Tour B Series iron lineup that’s comprised of two models: X-Blade and X-CB.
If the name “Tour B” sounds familiar, that’s because the company launched similar iron models last fall under the same name that included a blade and small cavity-back.
Endo forged from 1020 carbon steel, the X-Blade has minimal offset, a narrow sole for improved workability and slightly weaker lofts (35-degree 7-iron and 47-degree pitching wedge). The iron also features a forged weight pad positioned behind the impact zone that enhances feel and response.
The X-CB is also Endo forged from 1020 carbon steel and comes with a slightly larger profile and wider sole that gives the iron a lower center of gravity and more forgiveness through the turf. A forged weight pad was also added to the back of the head that improves feel.
Golfers will notice the X-CB irons have more aggressive lofts, when compared to X-Blade, particularly in the 6-, 7- and 8-irons where they are three degrees stronger (31, 35 and 39 degrees).
Bridgestone’s X-Blade and X-CB retail for $1,200 (4-PW) and come standard with Nippon’s Modus3 Tour shaft, along with 10 other premium options at no upcharge.
PHOENIX (Jan. 18, 2017) – Precision-milled faces with sharper groove edges than any previous PING wedge model dramatically increase spin rates and trajectory control in the new Glide 2.0 wedges, leading to more precise short-game performance from all conditions, PING announced today.
“The new Glide 2.0 wedges represent a major breakthrough in performance for a number of reasons, but it’s the new grooves that are most exciting,” said John A. Solheim, PING Chairman & CEO. “As many golfers are aware, we have a lot of knowledge and experience when it comes to evaluating and designing grooves. We worked closely with our tour staff to improve every aspect of the wedges. The players have been very pleased with the increase in spin rates, overall trajectory control, including lower ball flights, and the consistency of the carry distances. Around the greens, they’re impressed with the turf interaction and how the ball is reacting off the face to give them the precision they need to hit it closer.
“They’ve also commented how much they appreciate the refined, compact look. When you set the club down — whether it’s a full swing or a touch shot around the green — you’re confident you can play the shot. Plus, the feel and sound are incredible,” Solheim said. “Most of our tour players, including Bubba Watson and Louis Oosthuizen, have already converted to the new wedges. Together with the multiple sole grind options, the new Glide 2.0 wedges offer all golfers a tremendous opportunity to improve their short games.”
The Glide 2.0 wedges are available for pre-order today at authorized PING golf shops around the world.
An extremely precise wheel-cut milling process developed by PING’s engineering and manufacturing teams enables grooves with a sharper edge radius, which increases interaction with the cover of the ball at impact, creating more friction for improved spin and trajectory control. The grooves in the lower-lofted wedges (46°, 50° & 52°) are milled with a 20° sidewall and a .005″ edge radius for optimal full-shot performance. The higher-lofted versions (54°, 56°, 58° & 60°) are milled to a .004″ edge radius and a 28° sidewall to impart more spin, especially around the greens.
By spacing the precision-milled grooves closer together, PING’s engineers designed the lower- lofted options with one additional groove (compared to the original Glide wedge) to increase spin and control on full shots. The higher-lofted versions feature two more grooves for more spin on chip and pitch shots.
In testing, Tour players are seeing spin-rate increases of 1,000-1,500 rpm on partial shots (40 to 70 yards) and gains of more than 500 rpm on full shots when compared to their current wedges.
The soft, 431 stainless steel heads are distinguished by a hydropearl chrome finish, which adds a new level of performance by repelling moisture for reduced sole friction. The lead edges and
sole grinds have been carefully crafted for exceptional surface interaction and versatility, gliding through the turf and sand to enable creativity and shot making.
The patented design has key refinements to the four sole grinds (SS, WS, ES and TS) ensure Glide 2.0 wedges can be fit to a golfer’s divot depth or attack angle and most common turf conditions.
SS GRIND (46°/12°, 50°/12°, 52°/12°, 54°/12°, 56°/12°, 58°/10°, 60/10°)
An all-purpose mid-bounce sole with heel and trail edge relief to create versatility on touch shots around the green. Ideal for moderate attack angles and divots. Fits most golfers.
WS GRIND (56°/14°, 58°/14°, 60/14°)
Full-sole design that provides turf security for players with a steep angle of attack. The reduced camber and added width prevent the sole from skipping into the ball.
TS GRIND (58°/6°, 60°/6°)
A PING WRX-inspired design based on the Tour-proven half-moon grind. The TS grind facilitates shot making and precision from even the most difficult lies. The heel relief allows shots to be executed with an open face to difficult pins or from firm lies without fear of the lead edge sitting too high.
ES GRIND (54°/8°, 56°/8°, 58°/8°, 60°/8°)
Eye 2-inspired sole design provides the ultimate in bunker performance, resulting from the classic dish profile along with the tapered hosel. A refined lead edge upgrades all-around performance with the iconic ES grind.
The Glide 2.0 wedge’s grip and shaft are specifically designed to improve short game performance. The Dyla-wedge grip, which is ¾-inch longer and features a reduced taper, allows golfers to grip down for more versatility and trajectory control. To promote lower launch with enhanced feel, the custom-engineered AWT 2.0 Wedge shaft is optimized in weight (118g), flex and balance. The KBS Tour, Dynamic Gold, N. S. Pro Modus3 105, XP 95, and Project X are also available at no upcharge.
Glide 2.0 shaft options
– Stock steel shaft: PING AWT 2.0 Wedge
– Stock graphite shaft: PING CFS 65/70/80 (Soft R, R, S)
– After-market shaft options (no upcharge): Project X 5.0, 6.0; XP 95 (R300, S300), N.S. Pro Modus3 105 (S, X), KBS Tour (R, S, X), Dynamic Gold (S300, X100)
– U.S. MSRP: $150 per club w/steel shaft; $175 per club w/graphite shaft
The new Supersoft’s added distance comes from a new, soft core composition that spins less off the long clubs to promote more distance. Less spin also means less sidespin, which promotes straighter, more accurate flight. Soft feel and increased greenside spin and control come from a new, softer Trionomer cover formulation.
Additionally, this ball will be available in a multi-color pack, pink, and yellow color options.
According to various sources Rory will be using
- Titleist ProV1x ball,
- Titleist SM6 Wedges,
- Odyssey Mallet Putter
in the bag at SA Open and there is a chance of Callaway GBB Epic Sub Zero Driver, and Callaway Apex MB Irons but nothing confirms usage until play day – We should know Thursday. Keep you posted!
CARLSBAD, Calif., January 10, 2017 — Callaway Golf introduced today an ultra- premium wedge called Mack Daddy Forged, created by the industry’s preeminent master of wedge design, Roger Cleveland.
The appealing new shape, forged of soft 1025c steel, delivers exceptionally satisfying feel and response on every shot. Less offset, a squarer toe and a straighter leading edge create a clean, confidence-inducing appearance at address to promote crisp contact and command control.
High spin comes from the new Mack Daddy 16-groove configuration that incorporates an added groove at the bottom, close to the leading edge, to promote added stopping power, especially on pitches and chips.
The new •R• sole grind gives Mack Daddy Forged wedges the kind of versatility necessary to play a variety of shots from the types of grasses a Tour pro faces, from the sticky kikuyu of Torrey Pines to the thick rye- and bluegrass of Bethpage Black to the firm, tight turf of St. Andrews. The clearly defined crescent sole and mid bounce makes a broad range of greenside shots easy to play, from square-faced skippers to open-faced flops and everything in between.
Added control comes from progressive CG positioning, in which the CG gradually moves upward as the loft of each wedge increases. This promotes a lower and easier-to-control flight in the higher lofts without sacrificing spin, making it easier to attack the pin.
Mack Daddy Forged wedges are available in two finishes: Satin Chrome with a thin copper strike layer for enhanced feel, and Brushed Slate for a raw look that gradually rusts over time.
“Roger’s unique talent for working with Tour pros and understanding the nuances of what they want in a wedge’s look, feel and performance is unparalleled,” said Dr. Alan Hocknell, Callaway senior vice president of R&D. “That, and his extraordinary knowledge of all that’s necessary to bring a wedge from initial concept to finished club, is what makes the new Mack Daddy Forged wedges ultra-premium.”
Mack Daddy Forged wedges come equipped with True Temper’s Dynamic Gold Tour Issue shaft (the most popular wedge shaft on the PGA Tour) and a Lamkin UTx grip custom-designed to promote outstanding traction and feedback to help execute delicate, feel-focused shots.
Mack Daddy Forged wedge availability begins January 20th at a new product introduction retail price of $149 per club.
