Matt Jones Wins 100th Australian Open

Golf News

Sydney, Australia. Matt Jones held off charges by Adam Scott and defending champion Jordan Spieth to win the 100th Australian Open.

Jones, who posted an 8-under-par 276 victory total at his home course, The Australian Golf Club, finished one shot clear of the runners-up.

Scott, who trailed Jones by nine shots to start the day, was in hot pursuit with a closing 6-under-par 65, while Spieth shot a final round even-par 71, just missing an eagle putt on the final hole to force a playoff.

“I’m sure I can take confidence out of going head to head and coming out on top with those two (Scott and Spieth),” Jones said. “It’s something I can use down the road. I’m just happy to come out on top.”
