World Number one Tiger Woods is on his way to Melbourne in November

Victorian Premier John Brumby has issued notice that the world number one golfer will play at the Kingston Heath course in the Australian Masters.

Mr Brumby said "We are delighted Tiger Woods has chosen to come to Melbourne, further cementing our position as the major events capital of the world,"

Woods is expected to command an appearance fee of around $US3 million and it will be Woods's third trip to Melbourne.

Mr Brumby said the visit would earn the state of Victoria millions of dollars in economic benefits that would easily cover Woods' fee.

"Some of the great golf courses in the world are right down there in Melbourne, that sand belt," Woods has said.

Montgomerie and Marc Warren gave Scotland its first victory in the OMEGA Mission Hills World Cup, defeating Americans Boo Weekley and Heath Slocum on Sunday with a par on the third hole of a playoff in southern China.

Colin Montgomerie helped Scotland to its first win in the annual tournament.

The victory this year helped ease the pain Scotland's loss last year in Barbados at the first extra hole of a playoff with Germany's Bernhard Langer and Marcel Siem.

New rules come into effect from January 2008 regarding the conformity of drivers.

In simple terms – the COR maximum is dropping from 0.86 to 0.83. If you have been under the USGA rules you should banished your driver to the garage a couple of years ago, the R and A rules will come into effect from January 1 2008.

Rule: "Driving Clubs: The driver the player carries must have a clubhead, identified by model and loft, that is named on the current List of Conforming Driver Heads issued by R&A Rules Limited. Note: Any individual driver on the List, if tested on pendulum apparatus approved by R&A Rules Limited, must not have a characteristic time greater than 257 microseconds. Penalty for Breach of Condition: Disqualification"
